This 1931 established Roman Catholic church has the foundation of a Byzantine church built in 457 AD. It was destroyed in 1010, and rebuilt by the Crusaders in 1102. The Crusaders named it Gallicantu that means "cocks crow". The church was destroyed in 1320, only to be rebuilt in 1931. As the name indicates, the church was built to commemorate Peter's denial of Christ thrice before the cock crew twice (Mathew 26:58-75; Mark 14:54-72; Luke 22:54-62; John 18:15-27). This site is also believed to be the location of Caiaphas the High Priest's palace.
