THE PINNACLE OF JERUSALEM TEMPLE-the highest point of Jerusalem Temple, where as per tradition, Jesus was taken by Satan and tempted to jump off.

"Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in [their] hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone" (Mathew 4:5-6; Luke 4:9-10).

Two possible sites are identified with the pinnacle-the highest point of Jerusalem Temple. Majority believe the southwest corner of the Temple Mount during Herod's time as the pinnacle. Interestingly, a broken stone from Herod's Temple (1st Cent AD) was discovered here with an ancient Hebrew inscription-"to the place of trumpeting". It is believed that this is where the the trumpet was blown to announce the Sabbath and other Holy Days in Jerusalem Temple at the time of Christ. It is quite logical to assume that the trumpeting procedure would occur at a high point in the Temple.

Others assign the southeast corner to the pinnacle of Jerusalem Temple. The reason being the southeast point is the highest point overlooking the Kidron Valley below (and outside the walls of Jerusalem). How tall was the Pinnacle? The southeast corner is 211 feet tall, but if the distance is taken till the bottom of the Kidron Valley, it was more than 400 feet deep! However, the majority still prefer to identify the southwest corner with the pinnacle.
