Visit to the Bell Caves itself is sufficient to fulfill the amount paid to enter the park. The most spectacular cave complex in Beit Guvrin are actually a network of some 80 bell-shaped pits, interconnected by vast underground networks. The caves date to Byzantine (5-6 Cent AD) and later Muslim Periods. In the entire Beit Guvrin and surrounding areas there were about 800 Bell caves, the maximum depth of which is 82 feet (Average is 40-50 ft). he caves are believed to be quarries, which supplied building materials to the adjacent cities and to Beit Guvrin. The unique bell shape resulted from the method of quarrying. Today, the Bell Caves are ideal venue for organized events like music shows and other stage programmes.
