The Sidonian Burial Caves

These are actually two burial cave complexes from 3rd-2nd Cent BC, known as Apollophanes and Musicians Caves, respectively. The name Apollophane is from the leader of Sidonian community who dwelt here. Apollophane, Son of Sesmaios was inscrbed on a painting discovered from the cave. Similarly, Musicians Cave got its name from a beautiful painting of a man blowing a flute and a woman playing a harp. However, the painting currently displayed at Musician Cave is a replica, as the original was vandalized by a sect of religious orthodox Jewish community.
