THE JERUSALEM OR OPHEL ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK

Located near the Old City's Dung Gate, the Jerusalem Archeological Park is one of Israel's most impressive archeological sites. It is like a time machine where you are transported through some 5000 years of history in layers. Also known as the Ophel Archeological Park, this area lies south and southeast of the Western Wall and below the south wall of the Temple Mount. Beginning with the Bronze Age (the time of the Canaanites), through the days of the First and Second Jerusalem Temples, the time of Jesus, the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans, early periods of Christianity, emergence of Islam and finally to the Crusader and later Arab eras-the park takes visitors into a journey of ages.

For more details you can visit the park's official site at: http://www.archpark.org.il/.
You can also go through my earlier visit to the site. See archives of September, 2008 in http://www.lajupaulk2.blogspot.com/. Follow the link here for more textual details.
