The Hot Room (Caldarium) of the Large Bathhouse of Masada. This room had a double floor, known as a hypocaust. Hot air from a furnace was blown under the floor and through a network of clay pipes built into the walls to allow the room to be heated to the desired temperature.

1P: Steam passed  from the furnace room through the tile in the wall that is seen here behind the plaster.
