Ein Bokek, Dead Sea

Ein Bokek is a modern oasis in the Dead Sea area. The area gets its name from the spring Ein Bokek running through the dry river bed of Nahal or Wadi Bokek. The beaches of Ein Bokek are open to public without a fee. In biblical times the area supplied salt to the world from Mount Sodom just south of Ein Bokek. Archaeological findings have revealed a Roman fortress (1st cent AD) at Ein Bokek.
