Har Mikhya

Har Mikhya is a 634m tall hill near ancient Avdat city. Although, the mount looks barren and deserted, wandering nomads and tribes who lived in the area since thosands of years have left their marks visible. One of the oldest idols (8000 BC) worshipped by man was found from this mount. At the base of the hill you find rock engravings from prehistoric times. There has been several speculations about who drew them and what they represent. One can find images of animals and Gods carved to the rocks. However, human faces are not detected! Most of the images are engraved from Middle Bronze ages (2000-1550 BC). You can also see successful modern Israeli attempts to revive agriculture at these extremely harsh conditions. Finding large vineyards in such an area looks very surprising to many. Thanks to modern Israeli agricultural technology.
