Christian Village of Deir Qeruh (4th-5th Cent AD) in Gamla, Golan Heights

The village was established around 4-5 Cent AD and a church was built in 6th Cent AD. The village was abandoned during Arab conquest (7th Cent). The locality was again inhabited during 13-14th Cent. A Syrian village occupied the site in 20th Century and was abandoned after six-day war (1967). Unlike most of the churches discovered in Israel, this ancient church in Gamla has square shaped and not round aps .
