Al Aqsa Compound (see 1P for Entrance to Solomon's Stable), Temple Mount-Jerusalem.

See 1P: The steps lead to the entrance of an underground area located 12½ metres below the Temple Mount Courtyard. Popularly known as Solomon's Stables these are actually a series of rooms with 12 rows of pillars and arches. At present it is part of el-Marwani mosque and accessible only to Muslims.

According to Bible, Solomon had 4000 stalls for horses and chariots, and 12,000 horsemen; whom he bestowed in the chariot cities (2 Chronicles 9:25). Some speculate that these stables held more than 2000 horses of King Solomon. However, it is now generally accepted that King Solomon would never stable horses so close to the Jerusalem Temple. Moreover there are not any strong evidence indicating the existence of a stable in the area at Solomon's time. It was later during the Crusader period these rooms were used as stables. Muslim sources hold the site as "Jesus' Cradle"-the location where Jesus was laid down by Virgin Mary after he was presented in the Temple at the age of 40 days." None of these sites are accessible to tourists.
