Built by Abdul Malik ibn Marwan, the Dome of the Chain is considered to be one of the oldest Islamic buildings (8th century AD) on the Temple Mount. The dome marks the exact centre of the sanctuary. For some, the Dome is above a Muslim treasure room. Another Islamic tradition holds the spot where the Final Judgment will occur in the end of days and where a chain will stop the sinful and let the just pass through.
