Russian Orthodox Church of St: Mary Magdalene Contd., Jerusalem.

Another icon of Virgin Mary

Jesus meeting Mary Magdalene after resurrection.

Mary Magdalene before Tiberius Caesar. In her hand she holds a red egg which she presents to the Emperor, symbolizing the resurrection and eternal life. Painted by the Russian artist, Sergei Ivanov (1864-1910), it depicts Mary Magdalene's effort to convince the emperor about the unjust judgement and death inflicted upon Jesus. Tradition has it that Tiberius later removed Pontius Pilate from his position.
