This hill East of Mar Elias Monastery, was a Jordanian post before the 1967 war. You can still see bunkers and ruins of fortifications from these periods. In 1956, a Jordanian soldier, gunned down 4 archaeologists and wounded 16 from the Israel Exploration Society; therefore the name "the hill of four". Remains of an aqueduct that brought water to the Jerusalem Temple from the Solomon pools are discovered beneath the hills. The name "Hill of Elijah" is attributed to the incident mentioned in I Kings 19:15; as per tradition, it was here that Elijah rested while fleeing from Queen Jezebel.
