1P: Aftermath of Babi-Yar Massacre. 33,771 Jews were systematically shot dead by machine-gun in 2 days at the Ukranian Valley of Babi Yar.

The following marriage photograph caught my attention as it conveyed the horror of holocaust through the tragic end of a family. Unfortunately, I do not recollect the details of the family now. The incident lead to the tragedy was the sinking of a ship. The Struma was a boat that attempted to bring Jewish refugees escaping Holocaust to Palestine from Romania. They started from Romania on December 12 and arrived in Istanbul (Turkey) on December 15, 1941. The Turks did not allow to disembark and the ship remained in the sea for 71 days. On February 23, 1942, Struma was torpedoed, most probably by a Soviet submarine that mistook it for an enemy German ship. Out of the 769 Jewish refugees on board, only one survived. Coming back to the marriage photograph, among the 19 members in the photograph, 12 perished in the tragedy, which include the bride and groom.
