The 3000 year old MARY'S SPRING, Ein Kerem. Based on Christian tradition, Virgin Mary stopped here to drink while visiting John the Baptist's Parents.

Ein Kerem got its name from this spring. (Hebrew: Ein = spring, Kerem = vineyard).

The Mosque is only from mid 19th Century.
Pilgrims used to collect the water as a holy sovuneir, although it is not drinkable.
The rock-hewn tunnel is 30 metere deep and dug during Second Jerusalem Temple Period (1st Century AD).
There is also a tradition that Virgin Mary and Elizabeth met here (Luke 1:39-56) and not in the site of Church of Visitation.
