Nazareth Illit is the capital of Galilee and was founded in 1957. It began as the "Jewish neighborhood" of Nazareth, and then as Kiryat Natzeret, near the predominantly Arab Nazareth City. Today, Nazareth Illit has a population of 43,000 (90% Jewish) compared to Nazareth City with a population of 65,000 (70% Muslim).
